Mum-of-three is diagnosed with the virus and fighting for life on a ventilator in intensive care in Walsall Manor Hospital in the West Midlands – where she has worked for the past 16 years.

Nasreen tested positive for the virus after developing a soaring temperature, body aches and a cough, her devastated family. She has no underlying health conditions, was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital after her condition worsened.

The mother-of-three developed symptoms 10 days ago, starting with body aches, a high temperature and then a cough. On Friday, she tested positive for the highly contagious respiratory disease COVID-19, a doctor at the hospital confirmed that his colleague was very sick and in a critical condition.

Areema’s sister Kazeema has urged people to take the illness seriously – saying it is ‘not just the elderly at risk’.

And she moved to praise the hospital who, she said, have been ‘nothing but supportive and amazing’ in their care for her sister, who has worked for the NHS for 16 years.

“We’re obviously not allowed to visit her but the hospital staff

are keeping in touch and updating us as often as possible.

She started off as housekeeping, then a Healthcare Assistant and now is qualified as a staff nurse. “She is my queen and is truly loved by everyone – always putting others first. We are heartbroken.”

The number of people to test positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 9am on Saturday was 5,018 – up from 3,983 at 9am on Friday, the Department of Health said.
